Wednesday morning roundup: I’m no naysayer when it comes to Micron, but the more I read about Rambus, the more I’m curious.

Check out this site:

“Rambus Inc., the litigation-entrenched chip designer, is riding high from three major legal wins in recent months, but investors don't seem to care.

“The Los Altos, Calif. memory chip designer has been enmeshed in nonstop lawsuits over the past decade. Founded in 1990 by two computer scientists, including Mark Horowitz, a respected Stanford University professor, the upstart took the unusual path of becoming an intellectual property company in the semiconductor business, licensing its innovations to big chip firms rather than taking the more costly route of making or contracting chips itself.”

  • Idaho Public Television (IdahoPTV) has chosen Denver-based Burst integrator to upgrade the production control rooms at KUID-TV and KISU-TV, according to a national website.

  2. “[o]ne who elects to build a business on a product found to infringe cannot be heard to complain [even] if an injunction against continuing infringement destroys the business so elected.”

Rambus asks the court to stop US DRAM sales from Hynix. These memory chips are JEDEC standard and identical to the ones Micron produces.

  3. It appears the clock has almost run out on Mr. Steve Appleton.

  4. Not a lot is discussed these days regarding morals in the business community; it's all about wining; with some folks, it's done at any cost with no thought given to the potential long-term consequences. I've followed the Rambus saga long enough to learn a lot about the corrupt actions by Micron's "good-ol-boys". If there is any justice in this world, Appleton and his cronies will get jail time for their actions over many years. I encourage all to tune-in on the up-coming AT trial next Feb-Mar; this is best-seller stuff.

  5. Maybe Mr. Appleton can land Micron a contract dehydrating potatoes?

  6. I've been following Rambus fairly closely since 2000. The details of the brilliant scientists who founded this company - and how they forged ahead against the paradigm of that time - speaks volumes in the company's favor, showing the completely original nature of their intellectual creations which others have tried to steal. To imply that there is more value in production of hardware than in the inventions of gifted scientist, the very people who give birth to new technology, is absurd and childish at best. The scientists at RMBS are great thinkers who should be honored, congratulated and paid far more money than the CEOs, lawyers and morons of Micron. The JEDEC standard setting was not well structured back in the 90's. Technology was a different world with fewer OCD suffers creating red tape. RMBS did nothing to take advantage of their standard setting activities which, incidentally, went on fraudulently long after RMBS patents were disclosed. Finally the truth is coming out about RMBS and who has tried to take unfair advantage of whom. When the trials of RMBS are over and the public catches on to the big picture, RMBS will make shareholders wealthy. If you study this company you will buy it. Share holders will become wealthy. Share traders, not so much. This company is one to buy and HOLD even through the coming market collapse that will hit between now and September, unless I'm (happily) mistaken. I told you this in May, 2008. Thank me later. ;)
