The city of Boise recognized five building owners or managers for excellence in building Thursday at a BOMA luncheon. Boise’s director of Planning and Development Services Bruce Chatterton said their goal in planning is to not only prevent bad things from happening, but to make good things happen. The award winners, he said, exhibit both those qualities. Honorees included Rafanelli & Nahas for their fire and safety upgrades on the Boise Plaza building, Day Realty for their fire and life safety upgrades on the Vista Village shopping center, Unico for their US Bank Building accessibility efforts, Insight Architects for their long-term success in the application of green building techniques and the Velma Morrison Foundation for their use of green building techniques in the upgrade on the Falcon Building.

These buildings are notable for the projects that are often not glamorous but that make a difference, said Boise’s Building Division manager Jenifer Gilliland.
