Friday morning roundup: Sen. Larry Craig, one of 35 Republicans to abandon Pres. Bush Thursday and support the federal farm bill, said its time has come.

"Mr. President, you and your people have been at the table for more than a year," Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho) declared. "It's time you recognize the value of this project."

Craig was one of 35 Republican senators to abandon Bush on Thursday and support the farm bill. On Wednesday, 91 GOP House members voted for the bill, boosting the House's approval to a veto-proof margin of 318 to 106.

  • Ron Abbott, Idaho farm programs chief with the Farm Service Agency in Boise, spoke out recently on the federal farm bill. He said he expects the number of Idaho farmers affected will be low. He reviews forms and taxes regularly and is quite familiar with farmers’ adjusted gross income.
  • Amvac Chemical of Marsing was honored Wednesday at a Region 10 VPP Association Regional Conference in Sun Valley by the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The plant’s 12 employees treat agricultural seed using raw materials.

  1. The link below points to an interesting article that points out 'Six Reasons to Kill Farm Subsidies.' I post this comment at great personal risk to myself. Idaho's Legislature will likely have Mike Moyle, Larry Craig, and others in my area attempt to 'whack' me.
