The 8th Street Wine Company has closed. A sign on the door thanks customers for their service.
Erik McLaughlin, owner of the popular restaurant and wine store, said he couldn't identify one specific reason for closing except that "we did it as long as we could and just can't do it anymore."
He said he is moving to Pendleton, Ore., where he will operate the Hamley Steak House, a 40,000-square-foot restaurant that he described as "the most unbelievable restaurant I've ever seen anywhere."
McLaughlin recently announced he was putting the wine in the store on a drastic sale to convert that area of the business to more dining area.
McLaughlin sold his other restaurant, Bungalow, to Jason and Larry Broadwater in February.
The sign on the door reads: “We’re sorry 8th Street Wine Company is now closed.
Thanks to all our great customers, friends, and purveyors for all the great times these past two years!”
George Iliff, managing partner of Collier's International which manages and leases the restaurant space, said he just found out McLaughlin was closing the restaurant Wednesday. He didn't know off hand what the square footage of the space is but he said it's an excellent restaurant space that he should be able to fill.
McLaughlin was one of the Idaho Business Review’s Accomplished Under 40 recipients and he and his wife, Jennifer, recently had their third child. He was also writing a weekly wine column for the IBR.
